Make your app ready for 5G

The great human race started some 2000000 years ago. Change has been a part of our life ever since. Let it be the way we transport, the way we talk, the way we do things… everything’s changing… Experts say, roughly every ten years, new mobile network technologies and infrastructure involving a change in the fundamental nature of service. We have seen four different generations of mobile network technologies till now and we are already on our path to the next level or the next generation of wireless communication or simply mobile network technology. In this blog we will be talking about the future of our mobile network technology, the one we are waiting on… The Fifth Generation of Mobile Network… So, let’s get right into it…

The Predecessors

Like everything else, the concept of 5G isn’t something that got life on a single day. There were different technologies we were using before the introduction of 5G. The first mobile data services became available during the second generation (2G). The 2G mode of network was introduced in the year 1991 and it comprised of technologies such as GSM CSD, CDPD, GSM GPRS, GSM EDGE etc. The Third Generation, 3G, was introduced in the year 2001 and it offered much better network capabilities than its predecessor, the second generation. The third generation includes technologies such as UMTS W-CDMA, UMTS HSPA etc. The next generation, the fourth one, was introduced in the year 2006 and it offered much better network speed and efficiency than its predecessors… The fourth generation made use of technologies such as HSPA+, Mobile WiMAX, Long Term Enhancement(LTE), LTE Advanced etc…

The Future

The Fifth Generation of wireless technology has got something interesting to offer it seems. Unlike it’s predecessors, 5G is said to have a lower latency time, which can be considered as a huge milestone in the field of wireless communication. Apart from this, 5G is also expected to deliver us a lightning-fast speed as well as the ability to carry massive number of connections simultaneously. Not surprisingly, the imminent arrival of 5G is creating a buzz in both the industry and the wider world.

Standardization of 5G has already started and we see testing and trial activities around the globe. While the general view is that 2020 will be the year 5G takes off. To think of 5G as a step up from the 4G is a mistake. 5G has the ability to not just transform the field of telecommunication, it could also be the paving stone to other fields as well because of the low latency and the lightning speed it brings in. Everything’s within the tech is expected to receive an astounding boost in all the way up to the way it reached out to the end user, the way it defines the whole network of technologies…

The 2G networks were designed for voice, 3G for voice and data, and 4G for broadband internet experiences. With 5G it is expected to have the computing abilities getting fused right into the communication grid, the best part the 5G offers, making billions of devices to have not worry about the computational power needed to do their operations. I mean, literally if the network itself can provide you the necessary computational power needed to process the data, what else can you ask for?
